TEAM DREAM ACADEMY - OUR HISTORY
Founded in 2010 by community leader, Barry Hargress and Ving Rhames, Team Dream Academy was created in response to the growing need for safe, empowering, and opportunity‑rich spaces for youth and families in Inglewood, CA and the surrounding communities. After its founding, Hargress was joined by businessman and entrepreneur, Leland "Pookey" Wigington, who took on the role as the organization's CEO. Hargress and Wigington recognized that young people in the area possessed tremendous talent and potential, yet often lacked access to consistent academic support, mentorship, and structured athletic programs that build confidence and character.
Team Dream Academy (TDA) was built to change that.
What began as a vision to uplift local youth has grown into a multifaceted organization offering education programs, tutoring, financial literacy training, and high‑quality sports development. At its core, TDA uses engagement, teamwork, discipline, and leadership as the foundation for helping young people discover their strengths and expand their possibilities. Through intentional programming and community‑centered support, TDA continues to serve as a trusted resource for families seeking guidance, growth, and a pathway to brighter futures.
who we serve
We serve underrepresented youth from Inglewood, CA and neighboring communities—young people who are rich in potential but too often limited by inequitable access to academic, financial, and athletic opportunities. Our programs support students from elementary through high school with tutoring, college and career readiness, financial literacy education, and sports programming that builds confidence, discipline, and community.
We focus on creating safe, empowering spaces where youth can discover their strengths, expand their possibilities, and gain the tools they need to thrive in school and in life.
OUR PROGRAMS
We provide opportunities that help youth rise, dream, and build brighter futures. Our College Scholarships open doors to higher education for students with the drive to succeed. Through the Million Millionaires Program, young people learn to take control of their financial futures and imagine what generational wealth can look like for their families. Our Tutoring Services give students the academic support and confidence they need to excel in school. And through the Team Dream Academy (TDA) Basketball Program, youth gain mentorship, discipline, and a sense of belonging that extends far beyond the court. Together, these programs nurture potential, strengthen character, and empower every young person to see what’s possible.
