TDA BASKETBALL PROGRAM

 Team Dream Academy (TDA) Basketball program began in 2010 with a single team of eight determined 8‑ and 9‑year‑old players. Under the leadership of founder and head coach Barry Hargress, along with a small group of dedicated coaches, 

this first group trained with purpose and discipline, preparing to compete in local and regional tournaments. 

What started as a modest effort quickly grew into a powerful example of what focused mentorship, structure, and belief in young people can achieve.

That original team set the tone for TDA’s future. Despite its size, the group became known for its work ethic and competitive spirit. Their success extended far beyond youth basketball—five of the original eight players went on to make their high school varsity teams as freshmen, and three earned college scholarships, ultimately playing or currently competing at the Division I level. 

Their achievements reflect the heart of TDA’s mission:  developing strong athletes and even stronger young men.

In 2012, the program entered a new chapter when Leland “Pookey” Wiginton—businessman, community advocate, and former Seton Hall standout—joined the organization. His leadership helped expand TDA’s reach and deepen its impact. With his involvement, TDA grew from a single team into a multi‑team program, increased its fundraising capacity, and broadened its community footprint. The organization partnered with the nonprofit Britticares, strengthened its community service efforts, launched a tutoring program, and began organizing college tours to expose youth to higher‑education pathways.

Today, TDA Basketball stands as a comprehensive youth development program rooted in athletic excellence, academic support, and community engagement—continuing to build on the legacy started by a small but mighty team.
